I would say that I am a nature
integrated person. I’m as much of a city girl, a beach girl as much as a country
girl; it’s always been comforting and also brings me tranquility being in the
ocean as in the country. As a regular city girl, my life is quite chaotic right
now and because of this, I’m not always very attentive to my surroundings which
can be a big disadvantage in many ways for me but in the case with nature. The
movie “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill” which me and my classmates saw in English
class, alerted me on how much I was missing out.
In a summary, this movie is about, just
like the title says, the wild parrots of telegraph hill which is in San
Francisco. It follows the life of a man that has been taking care of wild
parrots for a very long time. He feeds them and treats them as his own and also
has little stories to tell about most of them which are quite entertaining,
fun, sad, and various things. With this movie people can infer on how we should
actually be not only with these birds but with nature and everything involving
it. We should respect it and take care of it. I’ve haven’t been one to look
trees apart from what you see at first sight, or strange animals or many
things. After watching the movie I decided to get into getting the details out
of things. With this I can now tell stories about the birds that fly over my
house every day as a daily root, the birds that are in my university and their
different nests, the trees, flowers and many other things that surround me in
my daily life.
We’ve been raised in a culture that
in a way has teached us to look beyond surface and not go into details and we
live unaware of our surroundings especially when it comes to nature. Many of us
are blinded to other things like cars, buildings, the house on the left or the
house on the right but what about the other part that’s been there with us from
the beginning; our nature. It’s one part of our daily life that if many of us
keep missing out like we do, one day we’ll end up destroying it without even realizing
it.
I don't blame you for saying that you did not look on your surroundings today we live in times of technology, it is growing so fast that we focus all our attention on it and not nature. Because you are not alone That happens to me. It is something that we all have to change but it is not going to be easy.
